Verifying Your Website Domain & Configuring Web Events

"Apple has announced changes with iOS 14 that will impact how we receive and process conversion events from tools like the Facebook pixel. Businesses that advertise mobile apps, as well as those that optimize, target, and report on web conversion events from any of our business tools will be affected." -- Facebook

With the recent update of iOS14, we aren't able to select our desired conversion action in the Facebook Ads dashboard. To bypass this, we need to verify the domain and configure the web events. This all must be done on your client's business manager. We recommend that someone on your team has admin access to your client's business manager so that they can go through this process with our assistance.

Domain Verification

As long as you are able to edit your client's website, you can verify their domain with Meta-tag Verification. You also have the option to verify via DNS Verification or HTML File UploadWe recommend Meta-tag Verification since it’s the easiest of the three.
  1. Go to your client's Facebook Business Manager and go to Business Settings by clicking on the hamburger icon on the top. In the Business Settings select Brand Safety on the left-hand side
  2. Click the blue Add button at the top if you haven’t entered your domain yet.  Type in your client’s domain. Exclude anything like “HTTP” or “www”. The value entered should resemble something like example.com
  3. Select the Meta-tag Verification tab
  4. Copy the code provided, and paste the code under the <head> section of the website
  5. Once that’s done, click the green Verify button in the Meta-tag Verification tab. You may need to refresh your page before you click Verify
Alternatively, if you don't have access to your client's website, you can provide them with the meta-tag code and have them install the piece of code under the <head> section of the website.

Configuring Web Events

After the domain verification, we would need you to configure the web events under the domain. This is for tracking leads or purchases. This must be done under the client's business manager as well.
  1. In your client's Facebook Business Manager, click on the hamburger icon on the top, and select “Events Manager
  2. Click on “Aggregated Event Measurement” which is right next to “Pixel/Conversions API”, and click on the blue “Configure Web Events” button
  3. Click on the domain that was verified and select “Manage Events” and click "Edit"
  4. Click the green "Add Event" button at the top-right
  5. Under “Pixel/Custom Conversion”, select your pixel
  6. Under “Event Name”, select “Lead” if the goal is lead generation, or "Purchase" if the goal is online transactions
  7. Click "Submit"
